Why does AI recommend your competitors.
An AI assistant names the brands it finds in the pages it reads and trusts. If your page was never retrieved, was read and passed over, or wasn't cited, a competitor's name goes in the answer instead.

The assistant never fetched your page. Either no page of yours matches the search it ran, or a matching page exists but wasn't found.

Assistants lean on the same sites again and again: review sites, trade press, forums and your competitors' own pages. If those sites mention a competitor and not you, the answer follows them.
Evidence matters too. In a 2024 study of generative search, adding statistics, quotations and cited sources raised a page's visibility in the answer by about 30 to 40% (Aggarwal and others, KDD 2024, arXiv 2311.09735). Keyword stuffing did not help.
